#makeitmonday : rainbow fruit salad
What’s better then a chilled fruit salad in the summer? It is so sweet and refreshing, and this one is filled with color.
Things you’ll need:
-strawberries
-peach or nectarine
-mango
-lime
-blueberries
-mint
-knife
-big bowl
-big spoon
We’ve had some practice making food now! First step, wash your hands and the fruit! Since it’s summer most fruits are in their prime so smell them before chopping them! You can smell the sweetness! Feel free to swap fruits for ones your family enjoys most! We like these fruits and they don’t usually get mushy.
We started with our strawberries. We chopped about 8. We describe the perfect size being something you can easily pop in your mouth! Sometimes we munch as we prep our food!
We did the peach next. This fruit might need some of your help first before your kids can chop it. We slice ours in half and they can remove the pit. Our friend noticed how the peach slices looked like a rainbow or an arch. What will your kids notice?
Mangoes were next! We bought pre-sliced. We aren’t the best at cutting the meat off a whole mango. If you have a good method, please share! During the mango chopping, our friend said she needed some help. So we grabbed our knife and we cut mango together.
We sprinkled in some blueberries. As many as you like with these guys!
We picked off some mint leaves from the stem and ripped them in half before adding them to the bowl. Oh I can smell the mint just thinking about it!
Last but not least, squeeze that lime on top of all that beautiful fresh fruit! They can squeeze it with their hand or a lime squeezer. We used our hands as it helps strengthen those fine motor skills! And you can give a little lick taste! And give that salad a little stir just to mix it around a bit. You can dig right in or refrigerate to chill it again. Either way it is going to be delicious!
Enjoy!
